Waiting An Eternity

With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

2 Peter 3:8

I’m a very impatient person, I’ve decided. I admire those extroverts who can strike up a conversation with the next person in line, or enjoy the beautiful weather while waiting for a table at Longhorn. For me, waiting can feel like an eternity.

Don’t get me started about the DMV. When Peter says that for God a day is like a thousand years, I feel like I’ve experienced that!

Except, I don’t think that’s the point of the scripture. What it’s really reminding us is that God is above time. God is beyond time. Every moment counts and is filled with possibility. And even a thousand years are just a drop in the bucket for our eternal Lord.

God does not wait. God does not kill time. God brings LIFE to each moment. Each “now” is an opportunity to serve, to pray, to act, to rest, to be or to do, all in the name of our eternal God.

Even in the check out line.

The Kingdom of God is not something that happens later. The Kingdom is here and available for every “when” and every “where” there is. I have only to perceive it and receive it. Sometimes that’s easier to do than others.

There is no waiting an eternity for those who make every moment count. I’m not typically one of those people, but I’m challenging myself to work on that in my free time.

I just need to remember that time is a gift from God, which means…

it’s ALL free time.

Have a good week,

Mitch
