I’m a complex person.
So are you.
We have a reptile brain that gives us messages of fight or flight.
We have a mammalian brain that processes primitive emotions.
And we have a cortex, our higher brains…the part of us that makes humans unique.
The cortex is where we process intelligent thoughts…like the concept that we are complex people.
We have years upon years of individual experiences that shape us. Good experiences, traumatic experiences.
Add it all up and it’s true that no two humans are alike. Not even identical twins. Not completely.
Hmm. That’s too bad. I think it would be nice, relaxing even, to hang out with some folks exactly like me.
We could talk politics and never make each other mad.
We could agree on every restaurant when we go out to eat.
More importantly, we would know each other’s deepest desires and needs. We’d never feel alone.
That’s it. I’m cloning myself. Mitch 2.0 is on the way!
…Or maybe not.
It occurs to me that Mitch 2.0 would be just as needy as me. In the exact same ways.
And he’d never tell a joke that hadn’t just occurred to me.
And I’d never learn anything from him.
Now that I think of it, I guess I prefer to be with people who have different experiences and different reptile brains and different needs.
After all, God must have known what God was doing, creating us all so different and complex.
(Even if it means we argue about politics)
The truth is, my world would be a sad, boring place without You in it.
That’s as simple as I can say it.
Have a great week,
Mitch
