“May I Cut In?”

Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?

Galatians 5:7b

The Lord of the Dance approaches you across the room.

“Would you like to dance?”

It’s an invitation to join the crowd out on the dance floor. Jesus is hosting a dance party, and you’re invited.

Everybody is swaying, jumping up and down, waltzing—doing their own thing, but all to the same rhythm. The rhythm of the Spirit.

In your own way you begin to move, one eye on Jesus, following his actions, but coming up with your own, too. It feels so good to be in line with God. It feels like you’re dancing…in truth.

And then you hear a voice behind you.

“May I cut in?”

It’s sin. Paul called it “sins of the flesh”. It moves differently than the faithful followers around you. It’s strangely compelling, following its own beat. It leads you off the dance floor, and over to a shadowed corner of the room. What you do there—it’s an obscene dance. A dance without grace, nothing graceful about it.

You can’t hear the rhythm of the Spirit anymore. It’s drowned out by the temptation ringing in your ears. And then, you find yourself feeling very alone. Your movements become erratic. You struggle to control your own motions, and emotions. You stare down at your feet, paralyzed by guilt.

But wait…

The Lord of the Dance approaches you across the room.

“Would you like to dance?”

Have a great week,

Mitch
