Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16
Let’s be the most careful with the most dangerous things.
Like weapons. You wouldn’t want to be leaving guns around the house, right? That’s why there are gun safes and trigger locks. That’s why you put your knives in a drawer out of the reach of children. That’s why missiles and grenades and bombs aren’t a dime a dozen, sold at the emporium down the street.
Let’s be the most careful with the most dangerous things.
Like addictions. A beer for you may be the downfall for somebody else. A slot machine can be a quick $20 of entertainment or a vicious spiral. Hard drugs may mess you up for a weekend, or mess up the rest of your life. That’s why we have 12 step programs, and age limits, and education. That’s why we look out for each other, and strive for a life in moderation.
Let’s be the most careful with the most dangerous things
Like beliefs. Dogma can cause damage. Fundamentalism can exclude and ostracize. One person’s holy book, if wielded as a sword, can cut deeply. Another person’s politics, without grace, can divide and conquer. That’s why we have discourse, and dignity, and the promise of freedom. That’s why we raise up our children to seek the common good, and to be disciples.
Let’s be the most careful with the most dangerous things
Like our words. Perhaps more than anything, let us be careful with our words. An angry comment can tear down another’s hope. A spiteful curse can breed destruction. An eruption of hate may be answered by hatred in return, until there is no safe place for anyone. This is why we teach and model kindness. This is why we listen first before we speak. This is why we guard our words, and view the world through the lens of love and care.
It’s a tough world. Dangers lurk, even from within. Safety is not guaranteed.
For God’s sake, friends…
Be careful.
Have a great week,
Mitch

Wow, Mitch! This really hits it!
You put so much truth into these paragraphs — sadly, such important advise.
Many thanks — & blessings.
